Verizon/Broadband woes

Still no broadband at home, thanks in large part to Verizon incompetence. Their field technicians seem to be bright, effective, and anxious to do the best work they can, and their customer service folks are the same way (with just a few exceptions). But somewhere in the black hole of Verizon there's a deep gravity-well of incompetence that sucks in all that great customer orientation of the support and tech folks, making their best efforts hard to see and largely irrelevant. 'Tis a shame...
